Although I played football on the 86 & 87 panther teams this is a story about the 86 team. While practicing for the JV all you could hear is Rote screaming at the tops of his lungs..which was very often. You knew two things were happening either someone or the team was in a lot of trouble and the worm was popping out. For those of you who don't know Rote the worm was a vein in the middle of this head that was big and would pop out when he was really mad./screaming. Well the reason for this worm was Chris Matthews not jumping on a fumble after a bad pitch by the QB on an option. So Rote let him have it and then took the ball and threw it about 25 yards and yelled at him to go jump on it. Then after Chris did go jump on it Rote did iit 4 more times until the last time he took the ball and kicked it about 25 yards into the woods near the saw mill parkway and Chris had to go run and jump on the ball in the woods. Point of the story don't fumble and if you do you better dive on it!! Go Panthers! - Charlie Alfano

Pville just came off a 2-6 season in 1982. As the juniors of that team we decided to work our tails off for the 1983 season. With direction from Coach Rote and Coach Hintz we lifted together as a team all spring. Many of us continued to lift all summer and it proved to turn our team around.

The 1983 season Pville went 8-0 in regular season play, beat Edgemont in the Class C semi final bowl, and lost in a heartbreaker in overtime vs Dobbs Ferry. Amazingly, the varsity team only had 22 players, I believe that James Adams injured ankle leading up to the section 1 title game was the only injury that kept a player off the field all season. - Brenden Rogers Class of 1984
